  Our Mission

It is our mission at Northern Gas Transport, Inc.

  Our Story

The Grant family, natives of Connecticut, moved to Vermont in 1956.  Bringing with them years of experience in agriculture and a strong work ethic, they began farming potatoes in the hills of Vermont.   A short while later Sheffield Potato Company was born.

In 1971 Bruce Grant, while still a young man, began managing the family business.   Sheffield Potato Company grew to over 600 acres under his care while providing over 2,000 tons of potatoes to New England markets.

One of the challenges Bruce faced at this time was in transporting those potatoes to market in a safe, timely manner ensuring product quality.    Eventually, out of sheer frustration, Bruce purchased a tractor trailer, hired a driver and transported his own product to metropolitan markets.  Little did he know that this one act would eventually lead to a new venture in the transportation industry.  One truck lead to three and several years later Bruce purchased a small fleet of propane trailers and Northern Gas Transport, Inc. was born.

With many years of hard work and dedication Bruce has proven that one man’s determination can establish a thriving enterprise.  Today, Northern Gas still remains a family owned and operated business as Bruce’s sons Bradley and Ryan are both part of the organization.    After more than 25 years of operation, Northern Gas Transport employs approximately 50 individuals and several seasonal owner operators.

NGT has become a leader in the transportation of bulk petroleum products in New England and Canada.  The company offers additional transportation services that include flatbed and van options.  We presently transport over 105 million gallons of propane annually throughout the Northeast United States and Southeast Canada.  With an emphasis on providing superior customer service and timely, safe, product delivery, we have established strong relationships with our customers who are some of the biggest and smallest names in the propane industry.

Safety is a priority at NGT.  Every load is accepted, dispatched and delivered with the safety of our

employees and the general public in mind.   Our drivers have an average of 16.5 years of professional

driving experience… and we take great pride in these outstanding professionals behind the wheel at

NGT.  The management at Northern Gas Transport recognizes the value of all our dedicated employees,

drivers, mechanics and office staff that have each made valuable contributions to the company’s success.

Without them our success would not have been possible.
